Slimy Science; Gifted Kids Face Sticky Situation

August 6, 2003

W right State University recently hosted a summer enrichment program called Slimy Science, a weeklong course for gifted and talented second-, third- and fourth-graders.

One of the activities taught the children to make a substance similar to Silly Putty using white glue, liquid starch and tempera paint.

The goal was to demonstrate the steps of the scientific method, which are observation and description, formulation of a hypothesis, testing of the hypothesis and replication of the results by independent experimenters.
