Nature’s Recycling System
COMPOST is a natural fertiliser and soil conditioner that can be made at home from organic wastes, such as: Twigs and prunings.
Lawn clippings.
Food scraps.
Manure.
Leaves.
These wastes are changed into a rich humus by micro-organisms (tiny creatures), insects and worms.
Composting is great for the garden and environment because it: wImproves soil fertility and texture.
Boosts plant health and growth.
Helps retain moisture and nutrients.
Lessens the requirement for chemical fertilisers and sprays.
Attracts and feeds earthworms.
Improves aeration of the soil.
Reduces the amount of garden rubbish going to landfills.
Reduces greenhouse gas emissions, pollution and odour from landfills.
Is cheap and easy to make.
“Greenwaste” is another term for garden waste, including trees, shrubs, lawn clippings and weeds. It can be separated from other rubbish and dropped off at council “greenwaste” sites (at local transfer stations) for a reduced fee. This material is chipped and mulched for use on gardens or to rehabilitate old landfill sites.
