Professor Smart and Dr. Know-it-All will be kicking off the ExxonMobil Let's Go Science! show with a science day for middle school girls at the State Fair of Texas. In an effort to bring science to life for students, the two zany scientists will perform their interactive show for 175 girls on October 1.
The ExxonMobil Let's Go Science! show, which will be showcased three times daily at The Women's Museum throughout the State Fair, is hosted by Professor Smart and Dr. Know-it-All. The two wacky scientists explain complex scientific theories and laws through highly visual feats such as shrinking their heads and making participants' hair stand on end.
The science day will also feature Melissa Bond, an engineer with ExxonMobil Development Company. Bond will speak to the girls about the importance of studying math and science, the career opportunities available in these fields, and her own career path. The presentation will conclude with a Q&A session.
"At ExxonMobil, we are committed to encouraging youth in pursuing and achieving careers in math and science, and Melissa Bond has a story that will captivate her audience and hopefully spark an interest in the girls," said Truman Bell, senior program officer for education and diversity, ExxonMobil Foundation. "We hope that today's activities excite the students about education and encourage them to learn more about the world of possibilities in science and math."
ExxonMobil supports the annual Texas Girls' State Fair at The Women's Museum as the exclusive science sponsor with a grant of $45,000. The Texas Girls' State Fair is a three-week event designed to help increase the confidence and self-esteem of girls ages 10-18 during the State Fair of Texas by showcasing the achievements, interests and potential of Texas girls. In addition to the ExxonMobil Let's Go Science! show, the Texas Girls' State Fair also features science and math fair projects, teen fashion shows, performances by singers and bands, career pathway workshops and a college launch program.
