Atlantic Storm Laura Loses Tropical Status

Former Tropical Storm Laura was over cold North Atlantic waters east of Newfoundland Wednesday and will pose no threat to land, U.S. forecasters said.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said at 11 a.m. EDT, the storm was about 315 miles east of Cape Race, Newfoundland, moving north-northeast near 18 mph.
The forecast track projects the storm will turn east and pass south of Greenland and then pass south of Iceland by Saturday.
Sustained winds had decreased to near 45 mph and the report said the 12th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season lost tropical characteristics Wednesday morning.
Shipping interests were monitoring Laura, as strong winds and gusts extended up to 230 miles from the center, the National Hurricane Center said in its final report on the system.
