There are many opportunities to share your time and talents with others. Listed here are opportunities provided by the 2-1-1 Information and Referral at 1025 S. 700 West, Salt Lake City. For more information, go to www.211ut.org

Jewish Family Services — Volunteers needed to run a monthly book group for seniors in the Sugarhouse area. Art teachers also needed to help seniors learn to draw and use watercolors or acrylics.

Primary Children’s Medical Center — Volunteers needed in many areas of the hospital including the information desk, gift shop and foundation office. Bilingual encouraged to apply, all shifts available. Good interpersonal skills needed. Volunteers may e-mail PCMCVolunteers@imail.org.

Utah Food Bank Services — Utah Food Bank Services’ Fall Leaf Haul is on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m. More than 160 volunteers are needed to rake leaves and perform other light yard chores for low- income senior citizens. The Utah Food Bank is currently filling opportunities for the food box delivery program, which is great for group and individual volunteers to work directly with individuals.

American Red Cross — Volunteer needed who are interested in providing emergency assistance for a three-week tour to those affected by current Gulf Coast and East Coast hurricanes Gustav, Hannah and Ike. They are looking for volunteers to help in Salt Lake also. Training provided. For information and requirements, go to www.utahredcross.org.

Up With People –This group is coming to Murray. Host families needed from October 13-20. As a host family you provide a place to sleep, transportation to and from local stops, most meals and an open environment to share customs and culture. Participants of the Up With People program are between the ages of 18 and 29 and all speak English.

Campus Community Outreach Project — Salt Lake Community College, Weber State University, Westminster College and Utah Valley University are recruiting for full-time VISTA volunteer positions. A 12-month commitment required; position begins December 8, 2008. Benefits include $865/month living allowance, health insurance, paid training, post-service education award of $4,725.

Davis Senior Services — Volunteers needed for Davis County senior citizens. A variety of volunteer opportunities available.

Red Butte Gardens — Volunteers needed to help during horticulture project days to get the gardens ready for winter. This is an opportunity for people to come en mass to assist the horticulture staff with a project that could take weeks to accomplish without volunteer help. This opportunity is good for groups.

Quilters Without Borders — This interfaith service organization meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month at various churches to tie quilts, which are donated to local charities. No experience or religious affiliation is needed and new host churches are always welcome. They also welcome donations of fabric, yarn, batting or finished quilts. For the location of the next meeting, or to get further information, go to: www.quilterswithoutborders.org
