PLATO Physical Science Named to 2005 Media and Methods Awards Portfolio

Posted on: Thursday, 23 June 2005, 21:00 CDT

PLATO Learning, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTR), a leading provider of K-adult computer-based and e-learning solutions, is pleased to announce that its newest science curriculum, PLATO(R) Physical Science, was selected for inclusion in the Media and Methods Awards Portfolio for 2005.

The Media and Methods Awards Portfolio acknowledges instructional technology products and services that contribute to excellence in K-12 schools. The awards are judged by educators across the country who evaluate products based on a set of objective criteria including: interest level, clarity of educational objectives, user friendliness, and overall strengths and weaknesses. "The highest rated products are selected for this award and are considered the cream-of-the-crop," said Michele Sokoloff, publisher Media & Methods magazine.

"PLATO Learning has a strong commitment to delivering quality solutions, and PLATO Physical Science in an excellent example of the caliber of product that commitment can produce," said Mike Morache, PLATO Learning President & CEO. "We develop our products using current research in both educational theory and practice while providing engaging, enriching content that attracts students' interest. This has a direct impact on learning outcomes, and we are proud to be recognized by educators for our ability to deliver on that commitment."

PLATO Physical Science is an innovative, standards-based curriculum that utilizes sophisticated animation and multimedia instruction to address scientific concepts at the middle school level. It was developed for use as a self-study tool in classroom or course recovery programs, in teacher presentations to introduce concepts, for test review, as a supplement to GED instruction, or to complement textbook lessons.

Each lesson is aligned to state standards and the guidelines set by the National Science Foundation, the Mid-Continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL) Lab, and the AAAS Project 2061. The curriculum also features a sophisticated test-item bank linking exam questions to specific standards-based objectives for pre-testing and mastery assessments.

PLATO Physical Science is the second curriculum in the PLATO Middle School Science Series. PLATO(R) Life Science was released in 2003, and PLATO(R) Earth and Space Science will follow in late 2005.
