‘We Have to Have the Evidence’
Scientists monitoring Cleethorpes saltmarsh must be given time to produce evidence to pave the way for action to protect the beach.
That is the view of North East Lincolnshire Council's portfolio holder for the environment, Coun Martin Vickers.Responding to Coun Chris Shaw's appeal for urgent action, he said: "I agree with Coun Shaw. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to move now. But we won't get past the first hurdle unless we have proper evidence to present to the Department of Environment.
"If Natural England continue with their present position we will appeal over their head to the Secretary of State (Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP).
"We have to have the evidence and that can only be collated over a period of time."
