Local musicians are hosting a public concert Saturday to raise funds for Long Beach-area military veterans.
"Rock the Vets" kicks off with a 6 p.m. dinner at Queens Wharf Restaurant, and continues with an 8 p.m. concert by Corey Clark and an 8:30 p.m. show by rock 'n' roll band "Peace Bombs." Funds will help feed struggling veterans at Long Beach Veterans Hospital.

Aquarium hosts event all about sea turtles
The Aquarium of the Pacific is hosting a Saturday Family Fun program, "Totally Turtles," from 10 to 11:30 a.m. this week.
Learn fun facts and trivia about sea turtles. The event is for children ages 4 to 6 and their parents. The cost is $36 per pair. The aquarium is at 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach. Reservations are required; call 562-951-1630 or visit www.aquariumofpacific.org.
Ditch old appliances at free e-waste drop-off
Electronic Waste Recycling of Long Beach is hosting a free electronic waste drop-off event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Joseph's School, 6220 E. Willow St.
Items accepted at these events include TVs, computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, fax machines, copiers, phones, cell phones and all other electronic appliances. No batteries or light bulbs are accepted.
Proceeds from this event goes to helping schools, the environment, and future e-waste events.

Meet local firefighters at open house events
All Long Beach Fire Department Stations are having open house events on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Residents can visit the fire station, view the fire engines and equipment and meet their local firefighters.
Firefighters will also be available to talk about and answer questions on safety issues including home fire safety check lists, home fire escape planning, proper use of smoke detectors and space heaters.

Republican women to have candidate review
The Long Beach Republican Women Federated meeting Saturday will include a judicial candidate review by Michael Jackson, the group's ballot proposition positions and a legislation update.

Get cheap books while supporting libraries
Friends of the Lakewood Libraries is having a Book Sale Saturday at the Angelo Iacoboni Library, 4990 N. Clark Ave., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Proceeds from sales support Lakewood's two local libraries. Hardback books are $1 and up, paperback and bargain books are 50 cents and there will be textbooks, encyclopedias, computer and children's books, a 'Teacher's Table' and unusual books with prices as marked.
Event will raise funds for crime survivors
A Crime Survivors Health Exposition and 5K Run/Walk is from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Joint Forces Training Base.
Marisa Petroro of "Deal or No Deal" is this year's special guest. State Assembly member Todd Spitzer and Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens will also attend.
Crime Survivors provides resources, support and information to empower crime victims to recover from their experience mentally, physically and emotionally. The event will raise funds for victim emergency bags, which are distributed to crime victims by police departments, fire departments and medical personnel and contain resource guides and materials such as blankets, toiletries and food vouchers.
The base is at 11200 Lexington Drive, Los Alamitos.
