Eric Isaacs to be Argonne Lab’s director
University of Chicago physicist Eric Isaacs has been selected to become the next director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory.
Isaacs, now senior administrator at the Illinois laboratory, will assume his new duties May 1, succeeding Robert Rosner, who plans to step down at the end of his current term. Rosner said he will return to his duties as a professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the university.
Isaacs, whose selection was made following a national search, previously was director of the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne.
The nation’s first national laboratory, Argonne conducts basic and applied scientific research in many major scientific disciplines. The University of Chicago has operated Argonne for the Energy Department since 1946.
