French physicist earns Templeton Prize
March 16, 2009
French physicist Bernard d’Espagnat has won the $1.4 million Templeton Prize for his theory of alternative realities.
The John Templeton Foundation said the award honors a living person who has made an exceptional contribution affirming life’s spiritual dimension, whether through insight, discovery, or practical works.
D’Espagnat, 87, is a theoretical physicist and philosopher of science at the University of Paris-Orsay, the Christian Science Monitor reported Monday.
The John Templeton Foundation said d’Espagnat’s explorations of the philosophical implications of quantum physics have opened new vistas on the definition of reality and the potential limits of knowable science.
