The possibility of bacterial contamination has prompted the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to warn against eating Shefa-brand beef salami.

The federal agency said Shefa Meats Ltd. of Toronto recalled lot code 2931 of the salami that has a Best Before date of Jun2 09. The product was distributed in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes might not appear or smell spoiled but consumption of food contaminated with the bacteria can cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness, the CFIA said.

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 416-783-1293.
