Coke Launching an Eco-Friendly Bottle

On Thursday, Coa-Cola Co. announced that it has developed a new bottle that is partly made from sugar cane and molasses, in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly in the packaging process.The new bottle will be tested with they company's Dasani bottled water in North America, along with other carbonated brands later this year. The test will expand next year to the vitaminwater brand.
Coke said that 30 percent of the new "plantbottle" will be derived from sugar cane and molasses, which is a by-product of sugar production.
Plastic bottles are made from petroleum-derived substances, which are a non-renewable source .
There are many large food and drink makers getting into the environmentally friendly game by making their packages smaller and more eco-friendly, especially Wal-Mart Stores Inc., who introduced a "packaging scorecard" to rate suppliers on their ability to cut waste and conserve resources.
