Renewable Energy Long Island Launches LIshines.Org

Posted on: Saturday, 9 July 2005, 00:00 CDT

Renewable Energy Long Island has launched a new Web site to inform the public on their options regarding solar energy. The site, www.LIshines.org, is a step-by-step guide to fitting your home with solar panels, providing information on the process and linking you with contractors that install solar roofs. Also, LIshines.org offers several calculators that you can use to figure the costs and savings associated with installing renewable-energy equipment.

The site also links with Long Island Power Authorities' Solar Pioneer Program Web page. There, individuals can find information on LIPA's rebate programs, which can total up to $40,000, as well as New York's State Solar Tax Credit, which offers 25 percent credit towards the cost of installation.

The site also addresses Net Metering, a state program that links power generated by residential solar units back to the municipal power grid. Net Metering results in additional credits.
