Wildlife Dept Seizes 21 Protected Birds

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The State Wildlife and National Parks Department
yesterday seized 21 protected birds from two houses in raids in Jarak
near Tasek Gelugor.
The birds, comprising 11 species, are worth about RM4,000.
The species included Emerald Dove, Hanging Parrot, Red Jungle Fowl,
Striped-Throat Bulbul and White-Breasted Water Hen.
The house owners, aged 28 and 68, were slapped with summonses, said
department director Ashnan Yusop.
He said initial investigations revealed that the men had committed an
offence under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
