Chisinau, 11 July: The price of petrol in Moldova rose by 13.2 per cent and of diesel by 11.1 per cent today. It is the first time in the past few years that prices have risen so sharply.
[Passage omitted: prices of various brands of petrol and diesel]
The importers had previously been saying that the rise was imminent as the world prices have been growing and "demand for fuel is still higher than supply". They do not rule out that prices will rise still further by the end of this summer because "petrol pumps are working on very slim margins".
This is the third rise in fuel prices this year. The previous 3- 6-per-cent rise took place on 23 June 2005.
