Babies possibly exposed to H1N1 in N.C.
As many as 33 babies may have been exposed accidentally to the H1N1 virus, or swine flu, at a hospital in Greensboro, N.C., hospital officials say.
Officials at Women's Hospital said the infants could have been exposed to the potentially deadly virus by a respiratory therapist who recently had treated an individual with H1N1, the Greensboro News-Record said Thursday.
We have obviously been concerned and have taken a broad proactive approach in starting those babies on preventive therapy, Lane told the newspaper.
Officials said none of the babies has shown any H1N1 signs since the therapist came into contact with the infants on Monday and Tuesday.
The therapist, whose identity was not reported, became ill with flu-like symptoms following her contact with the H1N1-infected patient last week, the News-Record said.
