African cranes have new homes in Wis.
A new exhibit at the International Crane Foundation in Wisconsin gives the public a chance to see four African species in something like their native habitat.
Spirit of Africa opens Saturday, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Thursday. The exhibit includes an amphitheater, two buildings and four wetlands.
Displays provide information on the significance of the blue, wattled, gray-crowned and black-crowned cranes and on efforts to protect them.
The 225-acre foundation near Baraboo is a center for research on cranes and captive breeding.
Most of the foundation is off limits to the public but it is the only place in the world where all 15 species of crane are on display at one site.
