Some Swift-brand beef products recalled

Posted on: Thursday, 25 June 2009, 11:57 CDT

The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall of 41,280 pounds of Swift-brand beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli.

The agency said JBS Swift Beef Co. of Greeley, Colo., initiated the recall after learning the beef was possibly contaminated with the E.coli O157:H7 bacterium.

The Swift- and Swift Premium-brand beef products were produced April 21-22 and were shipped to distributors and retail establishments in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin.

The problem was discovered through FSIS microbiological sampling.

E.coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration and, in the most severe cases, kidney failure.

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 800-555-7675.
