NIST creates new infant formula reference
Chemists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology say they have certified an improved reference material for analyzing infant formulas.
The scientists said the reference material -- a standardized sample backed by the NIST -- will be used in determining the concentrations of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in infant and adult nutritional formula and similar products.
They said their new standard reference material (SRM 1849) represents a significant improvement over the previous infant formula reference material, which was created in 1996.
