Indonesia sets new fuel prices for mining industry

JAKARTA, July 14 (Xinhua) — In a move to save energy consumption and reduce reliance on government subsidy, Indonesia’s state-run oil firm Pertamina on Thursday announced price hike of fuel products for mining industry.

Under the new price range effective from July 1, price of diesel fuel rose sharply to 4,740 rupiah (around 49 US cents) per liter from 2,200 rupiah (23 cents), the company’s public relations division said in a statement.

Gasoline is priced at 4,060 rupiah (42 cents) while at public gas pumps motorists buy gasoline at 2,400 rupiah (25 cents) per liter. Meanwhile, kerosene is sold at 4,940 rupiah (51 cents) per liter.

Earlier this week, Pertamina’s fuel division head Achmad Faisal told local media that mining companies and big firms — those consuming more than 500 kiloliters of diesel fuel per month — must pay according to market prices.

He said it was unfair that export-oriented industries pay government-subsidized price of 2,200 rupiah.
