North Korean Article Urges Removal of USA's Nuclear Weapons From South

Posted on: Saturday, 16 July 2005, 00:00 CDT

Text of article by Sok Yong-chan entitled: "The United States is the hotbed of nuclear war", published by North Korean Uriminjokkkiri website on 15 July

The United States has placed world peace and security in serious jeopardy by wielding nuclear weapons.

The United States was the first country in the world that made nuclear weapons that could lead humankind to its extinction, and it is a country of crime that massacred hundreds of thousands of people by actually using the weapons. The country that currently places the lives of humankind in jeopardy with the largest number of nuclear weapons in the world is also the United States.

The United States is atrociously scheming to threaten our nation and to obstruct the peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula with nuclear weapons.

The United States, which began to bring nuclear weapons into South Korea on a full scale since the war in the 1950s, officially announced on 15 July 1957 that the US Forces occupying South Korea would start to arm themselves with nuclear weapons, and it subsequently organized five combat units capable of waging nuclear warfare on the Korean Peninsula and extensively brought all sorts of nuclear weapons into South Korea.

On 30 May 1975, the session of the US House of Representatives officially made it public that approximately 1,000 nuclear weapons and 54 aircraft loaded with nuclear weapons had been deployed to South Korea.

The United States has turned South Korea into the largest nuclear arsenal in the Far East by deploying approximately 1,720 tactical nuclear weapons by 1991 for actual combat, including neutron bombs called the "20th century's weapons of the devil", whose deployment was rejected in countries in Europe and other regions.

The United States' nuclear war manoeuvres have become even more blatant in the period of the current US administration. After taking office, the Bush administration wasted no time to give instruction for mapping out a "plan to carry out a nuclear attack" against the Republic, while openly raving that the "second Korean war will be a nuclear war". According to the instruction, the US Department of Defence has mapped out the plans for carrying out pre-emptive nuclear strikes for northward invasion such as the operations plans "5026", "5029", and "8022" and is further accelerating the nuclear armament of the US Forces occupying South Korea by investing 13bn dollars.

The United States has already handed out permission to the US Forces occupying South Korea to use nuclear weapons and decided to accelerate the development of small-size nuclear weapons capable of destroying underground facilities and to deploy them first to South Korea for actual combat.

The United States - which established, in March 2002, a policy aimed at carrying out a pre-emptive nuclear strike against our Republic - is frantically conducting nuclear war exercises.

When a large-scale nuclear war exercise - a combination of the joint military exercises "Reception, Staging, Onward Movement, and Integration" and "Foal Eagle" - was conducted in South Korea in March of this year as well, [the United States] staged a war exercise of aggression reminiscent of a real war by mobilizing the "Stryker" unit - a nuclear strike unit - from the mainland of the United States and a nuclear-powered carrier combat fleet and by covertly bringing in bombers capable of dropping nuclear bombs, cruise missiles, and an attack nuclear-powered submarine.

Due to the United States' reckless nuclear war manoeuvres, today, a grave situation in which a nuclear war can break out at any time is being created on the Korean Peninsula.

The United States is indeed the source of nuclear war and its hotbed.

Should the US Forces of aggression and their nuclear weapons be left intact in South Korea, our compatriots can never be able to be free from the danger of nuclear war.

If the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula is to be safeguarded and if independent reunification is to be hastened, the US Forces occupying South Korea and their nuclear weapons should be immediately removed.

Our compatriots in the North and the South and overseas should enhance vigilance against the United States' nuclear war manoeuvres aimed at inflicting a nuclear catastrophe on our nation and should more vigorously and more adamantly wage the anti-US, anti-war struggle for the removal of the US Forces with the united might of the nation.
