WARSAW. July 18 (Interfax) - The Yamal-Europe gas pipeline is not an alternative to the North European pipeline project, Gazprom Deputy CEO Alexander Ananenkov said in Warsaw on Monday.
"The North European gas pipeline is not an alternative to any other gas pipeline project from Russia," he said.
The Arctic zone, including northern sea shelf, will fill the North European pipeline with gas, and "the North European route is the best for delivering that gas to the European market," Ananenkov said.
The first line of the Yamal-Europe pipeline to Germany across Belarus and Poland has an annual capacity of 32.3 billion cubic meters per year, while both lines will have an annual capacity of 65.7 billion. The pipeline will be fed with gas from the Yamal- Nenets autonomous district.
Up to 14 billion cubic meters of gas will be delivered to Poland after the construction of two lines of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.
Meanwhile, the North European project provides for laying a gas pipeline on the Baltic Sea bottom from Russia to Germany. The pipeline will have an annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters and cost about 2 billion euros.
Gazprom plans to finalize the construction of the North European pipeline with the assistance of leading oil and gas companies in 2010.
