17th Annual Academic Science Buildings Conference to Examine Next-Generation College and University Science Buildings

Posted on: Wednesday, 20 July 2005, 09:00 CDT

ORINDA, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Limited construction dollars for expanding science programs is a major concern for higher education institutions. How to accomplish both -- achieve science program goals and save money on construction costs -- is the tricky part.

At Academic Science Buildings 2005 on October 24-25, 2005 in St. Petersburg, Florida, participants get an insider's view of a multitude of newly constructed, expanded, and renovated college and university science buildings. The University of Maryland's James Clark School of Engineering (Engineering, Multi-Disciplinary), the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center (Biomedical Research), CSIRO building -- Queensland Australia (Molecular Bio-Sciences), the Purdue University Birck Nanotechnology Center (Nanotechnology), and the University of Minnesota McGuire Translational Research Facility (Translational Research) are among the myriad of completed projects being revealed.

Throughout the 25 conference sessions, attendees will discover the latest strategies for saving construction and renovation dollars, pick up innovative design concepts, and learn tactics for streamlining project team management and building end-user involvement. Also, techniques for using front-end business case analysis for research-based science teaching facilities, interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary research and teaching labs, as well as mixed-space buildings (engineering, biology, chemistry, computational, animals, BSL-3, nanotech, translational research) will be examined.

The conference will benefit capital project teams, campus planners, campus architects, project managers, science department heads, deans, financial officers, facilities directors, professors, and campus administrators who have commitments to research and science teaching facilities.
