Dutch police arrest two brothers in diamond robbery case

BRUSSELS, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Special teams of the Dutch police on Thursday arrested two brothers, 38 and 41, with connection to the diamond robbery at Schiphol Airport in February.

According to the Dutch TV reports monitored here on Thursday, the men were arrested on suspicion of "preparatory activities connected to the hard drugs trade".

A spokesman from the military police told reporters that he would not say whether the men were also suspected of involvement in the diamond robbery but acknowledged that the police "came across these men during the extensive investigation into the robbery".

So far one man, a 39-year-old who worked for the airline Martinair, is being held for involvement in the robbery.

The armed robbery at Schiphol Airport took place on 25 February. The perpetrators made away with about 75 million euros in jewels and diamonds.

The robbery, one of the biggest in Dutch history, took place on a cargo platform. The perpetrators acted as the diamonds were about to be loaded on a plane bound for Belgium's Antwerp.
