State mining regulators have approved the final reclamation of the Cimarron Underground Coal Mine in York Canyon near Raton and returned the bond to the Pittsburg and Midway Coal Co.
The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department has released the mine from further obligation and the mine area will be returned to Vermejo Park Ranch, the landowner, a spokesman for the department's Mining and Minerals Division said.
Operations at the 54-acre mining site 33 miles west of Raton began in 1986 and continued until 1995. The Pittsburg and Midway Coal Co. applied for the final release of the nearly half-million dollar bond in April.
