Ray Mine Workers Slated to Return to Bargaining

Jul. 20--Unionized employees of Asarco LLC's Ray Mine and company representatives are going back to the bargaining table Friday. The employees struck the mine July 2 after negotiations in late June broke off without a new contract.
This round of talks does not affect striking Asarco employees at the Amarillo Copper Refinery because they work under a different contract than Ray Mine workers.
The same contract that covers Amarillo employees also covers other Asarco employees in Arizona, though not those at Ray Mine in Kearney, Ariz.
Local members of United Steelworkers of America and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are watching situation in Arizona.
"They are scheduled to talk July 22," said Gary Larson, Local 5613 picket captain.
"The copper group unions have asked the company to meet July 28 and 29, but we have not heard," Larson said.
No strikers have returned to work at the copper refinery, he said.
