Tokyo, July 21 (Jiji Press)--Sanyo Electric Co. said Thursday it has begun full-scale production of solar cell modules at a new plant in Hungary.
Sanyo set up the assembly plant, which uses solar cells imported from Japan, to shorten the time it takes to deliver solar panels to clients in Germany and other European countries.
The plant's annual output stands at 50-megawatts of panels, enough to power some 20,000 households. In the future, the output will be doubled to 100 megawatts.
The start of operations at the Hungarian plant means Sanyo has completed the establishment of a solar panel global supply system for its three key markets--Japan, the United States and Europe, the company said.
In Europe, Sanyo hopes to boost sales of solar panels to nearly 60 megawatts in fiscal 2005 from the previous year's total of slightly over 20 megawatts, the company said.
Sanyo also said it has developed two types of solar cell modules featuring strong energy conversion efficiency. The new products, as well as the Hungarian plant, will contribute to the expected sales growth in Europe, the firm said.END
