OR-LED Additive Plays a Key Role in the City of Dallas’ Early Adoption of Texas Low-Emission Diesel; Sun Coast Resources Distributes ORYXE Energy Additive Blend to City Fuel Sites
The ORYXE Energy International additive OR-LED is playing a key role in the City of Dallas’ early adoption of the new, stricter air quality standards for diesel fuel in the state of Texas.
On July 15, Sun Coast Resources, Inc., an ORYXE Energy International distribution partner, began using the OR-LED additive to supply TX-LED compliant fuel to city storage facilities. TX-LED (Texas Low-Emission Diesel) is the new, cleaner-burning diesel fuel mandated for use in 110 Texas counties to improve air quality.
OR-LED is the first and only proportionally-injected diesel additive to be approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for use in alternative plans to meet TX-LED requirements, which go into effect Oct. 1, 2005.
Sun Coast Resources won the bobtail trucking bid to service the City of Dallas’ above ground storage tanks in early July. The company has also been hired by Atlanta-based PS Energy Group, Inc., winner of the city’s transport tanker truck bid, to supply the city’s five full-service fuel sites which house diesel storage tanks.
“It is exciting to be among the first to employ this groundbreaking technology to improve air quality in Sun Coast Resources’ home state,” said Steven Boyd, managing director, business development of Sun Coast Resources. “The City of Dallas is to be commended for its leadership and commitment to the environment by complying with the state’s new air quality standards more than two months before the deadline.”
As a part of its bobtail agreement, Sun Coast Resources will supply the city approximately 200,000 gallons over the course of a year (8,300 gallons per month) utilizing their existing fleet of bobtail fuel trucks, which hold up to 4,500 gallons and service customers requiring smaller deliveries, such as the city’s fire stations.
Sun Coast Resources estimates it will deliver an additional 3 million gallons in tanker trucks over the next year (125,000 gallons per month) to fulfill PS Energy’s transport agreement with the city.
“The City of Dallas is widely respected for its track record of exploring and embracing new technologies and ways to improve the environment,” said Walter Schindler, chairman and chief executive officer of ORYXE Energy. “Through our partnership with Sun Coast Resources, we are proud to help Dallas further its mission of being a good environmental steward. ORYXE Energy is well positioned to meet the demand for OR-LED, both in the early-adoption phase and after the TX-LED guidelines take effect.”
Tests conducted under strict federal testing guidelines and procedures at the West Virginia University National Research Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines, and Emissions laboratory showed OR-LED demonstrated a greater than 5.7 percent reduction in Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), greater than 20 percent reduction in Total Hydrocarbons (THC), the main contributors to smog formation, and approximately 10 percent reduction in Carbon Monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas, all major concerns for Texas air quality stewards. Widespread use of OR-LED in diesel fuel would result in reducing up to 6,000 tons of NOx annually.
