The Environmental Law Institute (ELI; Washington, D.C.) recently released State Wetland Program Evaluation: Phase I, a report on the first part of a multiphase study of the core components of state wetland programs.
Twelve states (Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington) were chosen for inclusion in the study's initial phase to represent diverse approaches to wetland protection and regulation, as well as geographic diversity, according to a statement describing the report. The research, which is being funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ultimately will cover wetland programs in all 50 states, the statement says.
The 180-page report may be downloaded free from the Web at www.elistore.org/reports_detail.asp?ID=11079. According to its mission statement, ELI is a nonprofit organization whose primary objective is the advancement of environmental protection through improvements in law, policy, and management.
