Green Mountain Energy Company and EcoQuest International Team Up to Bring Clean, Affordable Electricity to the Mainstream
Posted on: Wednesday, 27 July 2005, 09:00 CDT
Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation's leading retail provider of cleaner energy, and EcoQuest International, a healthy living technology company headquartered in Greeneville, Tennessee, announced today their alliance to offer Pollution Free(SM) electricity to Texas consumers. EcoQuest has nearly 850,000 dealers worldwide, making it the 17th-largest sales force in the world.
EcoQuest dealers will sell Green Mountain Energy Company's Pollution Free electricity product to residential customers in competitive markets in Texas. While the initial launch is exclusive to customers in Texas, EcoQuest and Green Mountain Energy Company have already begun planning for a possible expansion into other markets with a similar program.
Green Mountain Energy Company's Pollution Free electricity product is 100 percent pollution free and costs the same as TXU and Reliant's standard offerings in their home territories.
"Environmental stewardship is a vital part of our mission," said Mike Jackson, chief executive officer of EcoQuest International. "It's critically important that we realize there are a number of things we can all do as individuals to make a difference in our world, and making smart decisions about the products and services we buy and sell is one of the most important. This partnership with Green Mountain Energy Company expands our ability to deliver value to our dealers and our customers by offering products that help people lead ever-healthier lifestyles."
The production of electricity is the number one cause of industrial air pollution in the United States. Additionally, power plants in the United States are the leading cause of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and Texas is the leading state in the nation in carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that is the most significant contributor to global warming.
By purchasing Pollution Free electricity from Green Mountain Energy Company, the average Texas household using 1,000 kWh per month can help avoid more than 1,700 pounds of CO2 emissions in a year. To put this into perspective, it would be similar to about 2,000 miles not driven in a year.
"We're seeing renewable energy choices and awareness moving more and more into the mainstream," said Paul Thomas, chief executive officer of Green Mountain Energy Company. "This important alliance with EcoQuest gives us an established and viable sales channel to complement our existing sales efforts and continue to bring renewable energy choices to the mainstream."
