Duke Power Customers Set New All-Time Peak

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Duke Power customers set a new all-time record for electricity yesterday at 5 p.m. with a peak demand of 18,687 megawatts. This surpassed the previous July 2002 peak of 18,040 megawatts.

"Our reliable generation and distribution systems were able to meet our customers' needs as Duke Power and neighboring utilities experienced record demand."
Each year, Duke Power adds 60,000 new customers to its system and has a comprehensive planning process to ensure it continues to meet growing customer demand. The company is evaluating new nuclear, purchase power and efficient, state-of-the-art coal and natural gas and oil plants, additional conservation measures and renewable energy options as it makes plans to meet the future energy needs of the Carolinas.
