Negotiations With Foreign Oil Companies for Rights to Sell Oil Fuel in Algeria

Al-Khaleej newspaper quoted a government source who said in early June 2005 that the Algerian government is negotiating with foreign oil companies that want the right to operate in Algeria. The paper quoted General Manager of the local NAFTAL Oil Company, Akali Rumayni, who said that his Company is negotiating this matter with the French TotalFinaElf Oil Company, the American Mobil Oil Company, and the British BP Oil Company
. The Algerian Naftal government oil company is in line for partial privatization, specifically its fuel distribution and sales aspects in Algeria. The paper noted that local annual fuel demand reaches two million metric tons.Source: Info-Prod Research (Middle East)
