Taiwan share prices close down -- Aug. 1
HONG KONG, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan shares went down 0.1 percent with much thinner traded volume on Monday.
The weighted index, the key barometer of the Taiwan Stock Exchange went down 4.05 points to close at 6,307.93.
The bourse opened at 6,320.67 and fluctuated between 6,327.83 and 6,290.93 during trading. A total of 3.09 billion shares were transacted on a market turnover of 76.72 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.43 billion US dollars). The Friday's market turnover was 127.8 billion new Taiwan dollars (4 billion US dollars).
Only one of the eight major stock categories gained ground, with machinery and electronics shares moving up at 0.2 percent.
Six of the eight major stock categories lost ground, with construction issues moving down the most at 1.7 percent, followed by foodstuff issues at 1.2 percent, plastics and chemicals shares and paper and pulp issues both at 0.7 percent and textile stocks and banking and financial shares both at 0.2 percent.
Cement stocks remained unchanged.
Losers outnumbered gainers 521 to 327, with 135 stocks remaining unchanged.
