Chevron to Hold Open House on Mississippi Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal

Posted on: Thursday, 4 August 2005, 09:00 CDT

Aug. 4--PASCAGOULA -- Chevron will hold its second open house for the public today to learn about a proposed Pascagoula liquefied natural gas terminal. The new depot would be on 200 acres of unused industrial land within the Chevron refinery complex.

The event will be at the Jackson County Civic Center from 5 to 8 p.m.

Bayou Casotte Energy, a subsidiary of Chevron, has not yet applied for permits for the project, which will include the construction of natural gas storage tanks, processing equipment and a ship docking area that will fit a 200,000-cubic meter gas carrier and a crude oil tanker.

"This will be a good opportunity for the public to hear where the planning is at and what's been done so far," said Steve Renfroe, the manager of public and government affairs for Chevron in Mississippi. "We're hoping that people will come to meet and give us feedback."

The terminal's project team will be on hand along with representatives of the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to answer questions. Renfroe said there will be no formal presentations, just a chance for the public to interact with decision-makers.
