Second Penguin Chick Hatches at Monterey Bay Aquarium

A female African blackfooted penguin at the Monterey Bay Aquarium laid two eggs last year, and both have now successfully hatched. The first chick on January 8, followed by a second on January 11, 2011.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is pleased to announce that a second penguin egg has successfully hatched!

On January 8, penguin parents Umngane and Dassen were the first to reveal that they had taken good care of their first egg.

The second egg, also laid by Umngane, was transferred to Tranya and Molopo shortly after being laid, to give it a greater chance of success. This chick hatched on January 11.
