Spatial Energy, the leading source for digital imagery and services for the energy industry, today announced that as of December 31, 2010, over 35 major and independent Oil and Gas industry companies are using Microsoft Corp.’s Bing Maps Map Control through Spatial on DemandÃ¢“¢ ““ the world’s largest energy-specific online database and enterprise imagery management solution ““ to serve their mapping application users.
Spatial on Demand is enjoying solid success in the marketplace ““ revenue grew by 80% percent year-over-year and there were over 4 million map views served in 2010. New companies subscribing to Spatial on Demand in 2010 included IHS Enerdeq®, Cimarex Energy, Devon Energy and Quicksilver Resources, joining renewing customers such as Shell, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Apache Corporation, Chesapeake Energy, Newfield Exploration, and EOG Resources, among others.
As of 2Q10, Spatial on Demand includes access to Bing Maps as part of all Spatial on Demand annual subscriptions and offers unlimited access to Bing Maps to its oil and gas customers to provide access to the leading global basemap and associated geospatial data. This removes the need of Spatial on Demand users to manage transaction volumes. Spatial on Demand subscribers have a known fixed cost for using Bing Maps.
In addition to the delivery of Bing Maps through ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS server, Spatial on Demand delivers Bing Maps as a Web Map Service (WMS). This allows Spatial on Demand subscribers to use the Bing Maps content in common Energy applications that support WMS, including Petra, Geographix, PetroSys, Mesa, Petrel, Global Energy Mapper, with additional application support pending.
Bing Maps integrated into Spatial on Demand includes all the layers and functionality of the Bing Maps content. This includes the Bird’s eye (Oblique), Mapping, GeoCoding, Driving Directions, Proximity Searching, and traffic incident data.
Spatial on Demand subscribers may also take delivery of the Bing Map’s industry leading development tools and support infrastructure to develop their own web applications.
