Tajik, Russian Officials Inspect Major Power Plant Construction Site

Dushanbe, 5 August: [Tajik] Deputy Prime Minister Asadullo Ghulomov, Energy Minister Jurabek Nurmahmadov and representatives from the government, the Barq-i Tojik [Tajik electricity] company and the RAO YeES [Russian unified energy systems] left for the construction site of the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power station this morning, the head of Barq-i Tojik, Karim Niyozov, has told Asia- Plus.

He said that a meeting of the headquarters would be held there today to discuss the progress of construction.

We recall that a ceremony to recommence the construction of the station was held in April 2005.

Construction work is currently in full swing, Niyozov said.

We also recall that a seminar entitled "The drawing up of a programme to implement the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power station project" was held at the Khoja Ob-i Garm sanatorium on 28-30 July 2005. The seminar noted that 60m dollars had already been spent on the construction and some 100m dollars' worth of Russian investments were to be spent by the end of the year.
