TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Gulfstream Natural Gas System, L.L.C. began providing transportation service to Tampa Electric this week under a new long-term firm service agreement. The new contract provides up to 48,000 dekatherms per day (Dth/d) to serve the H.L. Culbreath Bayside power generation facility in Hillsborough County, Fla.
TECO intends to construct a 28-mile pipeline from its Bayside generation facility to receive gas from Gulfstream's mainline in Manatee County, Fla. Until the lateral is completed in 2007, TECO will use the transportation capacity under the service agreement to receive gas from other delivery points.
"We appreciate the confidence that Tampa Electric has placed in Gulfstream to provide this rapidly growing market with reliable, dependable natural gas service for the next two decades," said Brad Reese, Gulfstream vice president. "With this Tampa Electric contract, Gulfstream continues to serve the Florida market's natural gas needs and is now more than 70 percent subscribed by long- term firm commitments."
"A dependable fuel supply for Bayside Power Station, which this pipeline project will fulfill, is key to Tampa Electric being able to continue providing reliable production of electricity for all our current and future customers," said Bruce Christmas, vice president-Fuels Management, Tampa Electric.
