House Speaker Applauds President Bush for Signing Energy Bill; Hastert Says Measure is Critical to Improving America's Economy

Posted on: Monday, 8 August 2005, 15:00 CDT

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) today made the following statement on President Bush's signing of the Energy Policy Act of 2005:

"I want to thank President Bush for quickly signing the Energy Bill into law today. This measure will help Americans eventually lower their energy costs, drive economic growth and job creation and promote greater energy independence.

"The Energy Policy Act of 2005 addresses the burden that higher gasoline prices place on American consumers by eventually reducing our dependence on foreign oil and encouraging diversification of our energy supply. It also encourages domestic production of oil; establishes a Renewable Fuel Standard that will double the use of clean-burning and renewable ethanol; provides incentives for developing clean energy technologies; and enhances our electricity transmission infrastructure. It also contains several important provisions which will help with energy conservation.

"Thanks to the hard work of House and Senate Republicans, and President Bush's powerful signature, Americans can expect to have a more affordable, reliable, efficient, and environmentally sound supply of energy and this bill assures that they will."
