Scranton, PA (PRWEB) April 21, 2011
At 2:00pm EST on April 22, 2011, Good Friday, directly across the street from Chesapeake Energy’s office at 39 Fox Chase Drive in Towanda, Pennsylvania, a group of individuals and families suffering from the negative effects of oil and gas drilling will assemble to issue a public plea to their County Commissioners, the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett and his administration: now is the time to place a temporary moratorium on drilling until the most recent accident has been thoroughly investigated and the full impact has been properly assessed. Immediate action is a must.
William Friedlander and Todd O’Malley, lead attorneys at the Marcellus Shale Oil and Gas Litigation Group, represent numerous parties currently battling critical health issues and dealing with the ill effects of well contamination. Attorney O’Malley says, “Lives are forever changed. Dreams are shattered. And there’s just no excuse for this. It’s the wild, wild West and there’s no sheriff in sight.”
According to The Scranton Times, “Chesapeake Energy has been issued 30 notices of violations from the DEP for its operations in the state this year. The company has been cited 284 times for violations since the start of 2008 and been subject to 58 enforcement actions by environmental regulators.” O’Malley continues, “Responsible parties must be held accountable. But until that time, a time when a proven measure of safety and protection is put in place, the drilling simply has to stop.”
