Australia's Global Energy Role Will Grow, Says Ian Macfarlane in World Energy Magazine

Posted on: Thursday, 11 August 2005, 12:00 CDT

"Coal remains the mainstay of the World's energy needs," says Australian industry, tourism and resources minister, Ian Macfarlane, in the Australia feature section of the new World Energy magazine.

"(Coal) generates almost 40% of the world's electricity...and is likely to do so for some decades," he says. Australia is currently the largest coal exporter in the world and its "exports are on track to increase to more than 230 million tonnes in 2004-05."

"The Australian coal industry's use of rail and port infrastructure is very intensive, and coal transport is a significant cost item," he says; however, "Australia has achieved major reductions in its coal handling costs over recent years, which have contributed to significant improvements in Australia's international competitiveness." This article can be found at http://www.WorldEnergySource.com.

Also in the Australia section, Australian Coal Association director Mark O'Neill argues for clean coal technologies in order to reduce greenhouse gas emission problems; Roc Oil CEO John Doran discusses risk management techniques in the upstream and APPEA director Barry Jones warns against Australian complacency about its ability to satiate its oil demand in the face of falling domestic production.

World Energy and Energy Houston magazines, plus World Energy Television, are uniquely dedicated to providing an unedited forum for the leadership of the global energy industry. Unlike other publications, articles are written by executives themselves with no editorial filter.

The August issue of World Energy Monthly Review focuses on China. The newsletter features timely, in-depth analysis by Professor Michael J. Economides, one of the most recognizable names in the energy industry. He and his team of analysts craft monthly reports on the energy industry in Russia, China, North America and the rest of the globe.

At WorldEnergySource.com, every article published in the last six years is indexed and available for viewing. Additionally, World Energy Television's productions, such as exclusive video interviews with top executives at this year's EEI in Las Vegas, bring faces and voices to the top names in the industry.

Also on the website are daily news items, corporate profiles, over 50 stock exchanges, commodity prices and links to major energy companies. It's all translatable into seven languages, and key-worded and indexed. Registration on the website is free.
