Ashland Launches Sonoxide Water Treatment System

Posted on: Friday, 12 August 2005, 03:02 CDT

Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc. has announced the launch of its patented Sonoxide water treatment system, a breakthrough in the effective technologies that are available for treating bacteria, algae and biofilm in industrial water systems.

The vast majority of industrial water treatment systems use chemical microbiocides. The Sonoxide system uses non-chemical technology to control microbial growth with none of the issues associated with the use of chemical microbiocides. Like traditional biocides, the Sonoxide system provides microbiological control throughout the entire water system.

Sonoxide systems have been performance tested in a variety of applications ranging from cooling tower systems to direct contact process water systems. The technology is directly applicable to the majority of industrial systems currently utilising chemical biocides.

The Sonoxide system is a self-contained equipment package that functions without operator interaction during routine use. Water passes through the Sonoxide chamber, where bacterial cells are exposed to low power, high frequency ultrasonic energy. This energy causes a series of fatal alterations within bacterial and algae cells, resulting in cell death.
