Grocery Chain Heads for Center

Aug. 16--Warehouse Market plans to open Sept. 7 at 31st Street and Sheridan Road. The Tulsa-based Warehouse Market chain of grocery stores is preparing a new location at Boman Acres Shopping Center.
Don Olansen, president of Warehouse Market, said the 25,000-square-foot store is on track for a Sept. 7 opening.
The chain had been considering the area of 31st Street and Sheridan Road for quite some time, he said.
"We feel like there's a need for a neighborhood grocery store there," Olansen said. "There are stores a few miles away, but nothing close by."
He said the chain finally found potential space at Boman Acres, then requested that Boman's management make improvements such as resurfacing the parking lot and giving it new lights.
"Our commitment to go there was based on those improvements," Olansen said.
The store, which will open within previously vacant space in the shopping center, will be slightly smaller than other Warehouse Markets, Olansen said. Though it won't be large enough for extra features such as a video rental counter, he said shoppers will not find limits on food items.
"We're doing what we can to get everything in our other stores in this one," Olansen said.
Warehouse Market will take applications for jobs at the new store Thursday and Friday at the Boman location.
The store will be the chain's 16th. Other Warehouse Market stores are located in Oklahoma City, Okmulgee, Turley, Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Claremore, Broken Arrow and Tulsa.
