New Hampshire Water Utility Exec Named to Environmental Committee

Posted on: Tuesday, 16 August 2005, 21:00 CDT

Aug. 17--MERRIMACK -- Don Correll, president and chief executive officer of Pennichuck Corp. has been appointed to the Environmental Financial Advisory Board, a federally chartered advisory committee to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Correll brings years of financial and environmental experience to the board, which advises the administrator and program offices about how to pay for environmental protection and ways to remove financial and programmatic barriers that raise the cost of environmental protection.

The EFAB also looks for ways to cut programmatic costs and increase efficiencies. Correll's two-year term began Aug. 1, after the appointment by EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson.

"I am honored to have been appointed to the Environmental Financial Advisory Board to the Environmental Protection Agency," Correll said in a prepared statement. "I've been involved in the water industry for a long time, and I take environmental protection very seriously.

"It is crucial to ensure the programs and mandates issued by the federal government to protect our environment are able to be supported, maintained and funded by communities around the country. I hope my role with the EFAB will allow me to advocate for those positions."

Correll received his Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Masters in Business Administration degree from New York University Graduate School of Business.

Correll served from 1991 to 2001 as chairman, chief executive officer and president of United Water Resources, formerly one of the largest investor owned water utilities in the United States.

He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of both HealthSouth Corp. and Interchange Financial Services Corp., and as a Commissioner of the New Jersey Water Supply Authority.

The Environmental Financial Advisory Board's membership includes experts from all levels of finance and government, including finance, banking, business and industry leaders, as well as elected officials and representatives of national organizations.
