Study on environmental NGOs to be conducted in China
BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — The Chinese government plans to launch an investigation into non-governmental organizations (NGOs) engaged in environmental activities nationwide in recent years.
The investigation will be completed by the end of this year, and the government will publish a white paper on these NGOs, according to the organizer, the Chinese Federation of Environmental Protection.
These NGOs have been seen as the third major actor in the field of environmental protection, in addition to the government and enterprises.
The federation and the China Youth Daily’s investigation center will work together on studies to learn about the status of these NGOs.
The investigation will be sponsored by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and the State Environmental Protection Administration.
In related developments, the newspaper issued an advertisement Monday, encouraging people to help collect information on the NGOs.
