Coal mine flooding traps 16 miners in northeast China
CHANGCHUN, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) — Sixteen coal miners were trapped beneath the shaft in a coal mine flooding in Shulan City, northeast China’s Jilin Province, on Friday afternoon, local sources said.
The flooding took place at about 4 p.m. at the No.5 shaft of Fengguang Coal Mine, which falls under jurisdiction of the mining affairs bureau of Shulan, a city about 120 km east of Changchun City, the provincial capital.
Rescue operation is going on in a tense manner.
Cause of the accident is under investigation.
