Indonesia's monthly oil import reaches 1.6 billion US dollars
JAKARTA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia needs to import 700,000 barrels of crude oil and fuel per month worth around 1.6 billion US dollars, an executive with state-run oil firm Pertamina said Friday.
"Since we buy dollars from the central bank at market price, import cost will increase due to the hike in exchange rate," Pertamina finance director Alfred Rohimone was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.
The monthly import consists of 400,000 barrels of crude oil and 300,000 barrels of fuel, he added.
The rupiah has hit a 3.5-year low. The local currency traded at 10,360/10,380 to the dollar Friday, down from 10,320/10,325 Thursday.
