Nobel Prize Scientist Rotblat Dies

NOBEL Peace prize winner and physics professor Joseph Rotblat has died.

Professor Rotblat died in his sleep last night aged 96.

He was professor of physics at the medical college of Bart’s Hospital for almost 30 years until 1976.

Rotblat and the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, the group he founded to campaign against nuclear arms, received the Nobel prize in 1995. He beat John Major, Albert Reynolds, John Hume and Gerry Adams – the frontrunners for their work in bringing peace to Northern Ireland.

M.S. Swaminathan, president of the Pugwash Conferences, said Rotblat tried to make the world a safer and more peaceful place.

“Joseph Rotblat dedicated his life to trying to rid the world of nuclear weapons, and ultimately of war itself,” he said.
