Russian Security Forces Hold Planned Exercise at Nuclear Power Plant

Yekaterinburg, 5 September: A security exercise has began at the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant in Sverdlovsk Region, the power plant's information centre told ITAR-TASS news agency today. Officers from agencies responsible for the plant's security - the Federal Security Service [FSB], the [region's] Main Interior Directorate and the Internal Troops - as well as officials of the state-run Rosenergoatom nuclear energy concern, are taking part in the active phase of the exercise which will last till 15 September. The exercise involves movement of these agencies' special units and transport.
"Residents of the town of Zarechnyy and Beloyarskiy District have nothing to worry about. The Beloyarsk power plant is functioning in the normal way and the exercise is held in accordance with a previously approved plan," the head of the plant's information centre, Marianna Bakanova, said.
