Environmental Protection Commission Wins Green Apple Environment Award

According to "Bahrain Tribune", the Public Commission for the Protection of Wildlife,Marine Resources and Environment, has received the international 'Green Apple' Environment Award for 2005 from the UK-based Green Organization. The award was given to the commission for its initiative in providing an area for the disposal of dangerous waste and setting up the Hafira Industrial Landfill Site
. The move has been recognized by the judges giving the award as the year's best environmental practice. The Hafira landfill site, located in a quarry around 25 km from Manama, was designed to accommodate industrial and potential hazardous waste. The President of the commission, Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, said the awarding of the prestigious environmental recognition to the Commission would promote the country's role in protecting the environment.Source: Info-Prod Research (Middle East)
